The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class I recall for a line of milk products as they may contain undeclared almonds from almond milk, a known allergen.
The firm-initiated recall, classified as the most serious level, indicates that the consumption of these products could pose a life-threatening risk to individuals with almond allergies. A Class I recall, as noted by the FDA, is a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
For individuals with nut allergies, even trace amounts of almond proteins can trigger severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis—a potentially fatal condition.

In March, a chocolate cherry granola was recalled amid fears it could spark a “life-threatening allergic reaction” for some consumers. The Door County Love Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola, made by Wisconsin-based Kick Ash Products, was thought to contain undeclared almonds.
Newsweek contacted FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) on Monday via email for comment.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat or tongue, hives, and a sudden drop in blood pressure. Those who have consumed the product and are experiencing symptoms are urged to seek medical attention immediately.
